Zigurds Lanka is considered one of the best-known chess coaches in the world. Lanka is a multiple Latvian master and the author of several chess books. He is known above all for his extraordinarily broad opening knowledge, which he understands better than anyone else how to make accessible to amateur players. For Latvia, Lanka took part in three Chess Olympiads and several European and World Team Championships. His best-known students include the grandmasters Alexei Shirov, Viktor Bologan and Falko Bindrich.
GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu

Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu is a Romanian-German chess grandmaster and member of the German national team. He became Romanian Champion several times and also German Champion in 2017. In the 1999 World Championship he reached the semifinals, losing only to the eventual World Champion Alexander Khalifman. Nisipeanu became European champion in Warsaw in 2005. He is considered a very versatile and tactically excellent player.
GM Alexei Shirov

Born in Latvia, now representing Spain. He is considered one of the most creative players in the world. As a youth world champion and winner of numerous international tournaments, Shirov was part of the absolute world elite for years. In 1994 he was ranked second in the world and in 1998 he defeated the future world champion Vladimir Kramnik in a famous match. Due to his unique tactical skills and excellent endgame technique, he is often compared to the Latvian World Champion Mikhail Tal.
WIM Annmarie Mütsch

Annmarie Mütsch is the Women's International Master and a member of the German Women's National Team. In 2018, Mütsch became youth world champion in the under-16 category. In 2019, she won the silver medal with the German team at the U18 Women's Team European Championship. Mütsch plays in the women's Schachbundesliga for Karlsruher Schachfreunde.
